Drawing trees with most simple means

ink drawing of trees

This ink drawing was done with a big brush in a small sketchbook on watercolor paper. I love this big old brush, which has served me for more than ten years as tool and as model in some still life paintings. Now I picked it up again after a long time to use it as drawing tool to fill this sketchbook with a series of simple ink drawings of tree landscapes. The sketchbook is handmade in coptic binding. I found it on the Mainzer Minipressen Fair in 2009. I want a “Japanese book” and so some Haiku by Matsuo Basho will be noted as well on pages in between the drawings.

I love the tree saw painting. I could live with that forever and the brush is to wonderful for words. This is going to be a great book.

    Hello Pat,
happy easter to you. The pastel drawing was inspired by Jim Dine and his incredible drawings. Here is an example

I thought ‘Jim Dine’ but I also thought jolly good, Martin!

As I’ve said elsewhere, these big brush ink paintings are wonderful,
