A study of bark and leaves

bark of an apple tree, ink drawingI have turned the page in my big sketchbook about three weeks ago.

Another ink drawing to document some of our local orchards is developing step by step. Returning again and again to the same place to draw is an interesting experience.

Illustrator Penelope Dullaghan blogs about the Terra Places Project, it is tempting to join, but I have no spare time.

Spending time at certain places to develop a sense of place is great, but not always uplifting. Quite often it can be a sobering experience too.

I don’t think I’d have the self-discipline to spend so much time examining one place, which means I should probably try it! I know you do have, Martin so a pity you are so busy. these are lovely sketches – the bottom one seemed to change between my first look and commenting..? I love the sense of distance you’ve got with empty space and such small areas of detailed working.

Hi Cathy, yes you are right. I removed another detail to put in the full double page. With the given speed of progress I have calculated that it would take 10 years until this sketchbook is filled.
